Rumor: Sony Ericsson to use Windows Mobile

"Commercial Times" publication that is issued in Chinese language is reporting that Sony Erricson will sell Windows Mobile phones next year.
Couple years ago when we published a April Fools Day Hoax about it, then we were contacted by Sony Ericsson representatives from UK (where this joint venture between Sony and Ericsson has headquarters) with threats to remove such information. Later a lawyer of Sony Ericsson contacted us and we were forced to remove this information although it was just a joke.
This time it is not a joke!:
Apparently HTC from Taiwan has received orders to make Windows Mobile phones for Sony Ericsson - according to above mentioned Chinese press.
If this rumor would be confirmed then implications would be enormous because Sony Ericsson is one of the largest mobile phone manufacturers in the world and Ericsson itself is making also mobile network infrastructure, so trust of operators is big in this corporation.
Let us hope only that Windows Mobile powered phones from Sony Ericsson will not have this awkward keyboard that is not a true QWERTY keyboard but requires one button to press 2 letters. This awkward keyboard was a reason why several Sony Ericsson smartphones powered by Symbian UIQ have failed.
Interestingly Sony Ericsson's participation in Symbian consortium is not quite peaceful because they use UIQ platform of Symbian in their smartphones instead of using the one with Nokia. It is further fragmenting Symbian platform and clearly Sony Ericsson is tired of supporting its main competitor - Nokia - that owns 50% of Symbian company. To learn more about Ericsson-owned UIQ, click here to listen to interview with CEO of UIQ, that we carried out at latest 3GSM.
More information (in Swedish, Ericsson is headquartered in Sweden) can be found here.
